Alveolar ridge preservation techniques
Tooth extraction inevitably leads to resorption and remodeling of the alveolar ridge. This reduction in ridge dimensions can complicate subsequent treatments such as implants, bridges, or dentures for both clinicians and patients. Clinical research and experience indicate that early surgical intervention with suitable biomaterials can significantly reduce early bone loss. This procedure, known as Ridge Preservation, involves placing biomaterials into the extraction socket to compensate for bone loss and provide a scaffold for new bone formation.
This lecture will examine the evidence supporting alveolar ridge preservation procedures and detail the surgical techniques involved. The knowledge gained can be immediately applied to your daily clinical practice.

Dr Eugene Sheftel 
Dr Sheftel was born in USSR and moved to Israel where he completed his undergraduate dental degree in 2007. He worked in a general dental setting and applied to a periodontal residency at the University of Otago New Zealand which he completed in 2017. He has worked as a periodontist in Melbourne since 2018, taking over Moonee Ponds Periodontics and Implant Centre in 2022. Dr Sheftel is a current Treasurer of Australian Society of Periodontics and is involved with Australian Society of Periodontics CPD program.
