Case discussion session with dental specialists

Join our interactive table clinic session and enhance your skills!
During this session, event attendees are invited to bring in cases from their own practice and discuss them with colleagues and the dental specialists to develop strategies to manage them. Hear interesting cases from specialists and learn tips and tricks on how to best handle different scenarios.
Discussions will be conducted in small group settings, with speakers rotating between tables to ensure everyone has the opportunity to draw on the unique knowledge and experience possessed by each of the dental specialists. Attendees without a specific case to discuss are welcome to listen and learn from the experiences of their fellow dental professionals.

Dr Martin S. Gale
Dr Martin Gale qualified as a dentist from The University Of Newcastle, UK in 1989 and worked for several years in general dental practice there. He then completed a PhD in restorative dentistry at The University of Hong Kong in 1997. He acquired fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons in 1998. After moving to The University of Melbourne, he completed a masters program in endodontics in 2000. Since then Dr Gale has been working as a specialist endodontist in Ivanhoe, Melbourne, but has also continued his research. He coded a software application to collect and then predict the infection status of pulp spaces from clinical and radiographic signs. The software uses a machine learning technique with a proprietary neural network. He continues to research the further implementation of artificial intelligence into dentistry. Dr Gale is also a committee member for the Australian Society of Endodontology (Victorian Branch), and the Federal ADA's Dental Informatics and Digital Health Committee (DIDHC). More recently he has been invited onto a working group at the International Standards Organisation (ISO). This working group is developing an ISO standard for the diagnosis of two dimensional dental radiographs by artificial intelligence. Dr Gale continues to enjoy full time clinical endodontic specialist practice in Ivanhoe and also mentors final year dental students for the University of Melbourne, and new dental graduates for the ADA(VB).
Dr Alex Khominsky
Dr Khominsky grew up in the SE suburbs of Melbourne. He has been passionate about oral health since his early years and graduated with a BDS from the University of Adelaide as DUX of his class, including Pierre Fauchard Academy Award, Moore Medallion, Executive Dean's Certificate of Merit and the South Australian Dental Service Prize. His research interests also led him to complete a concurrent BScDent (Honours) in Craniofacial Biology which resulted in a few publications. He then returned to Melbourne and family, working at the Alfred Hospital as a Dental Officer, publishing a paper on Osteonecrosis of the Jaw while looking after patients who were undergoing organ transplants, cancer treatment, trauma, bleeding conditions and immunocompromised. There he further developed his passion for dental medicine, before working privately for several years in SE suburbs of Melbourne and the Mornington Peninsula while teaching dental students at the University of Melbourne. He then returned to the University of Melbourne as a postgraduate, completing his DCD Specialty in Periodontics.
Alex is a member and study club director of ITI and Australian Society of Periodontology, regular attender of Australian Osseointegration Society. He is also Director of General Dental Residency, an institution dedicated to the comprehensive education of graduate dentists and oral health therapists.
Alex has a special interest in periodontal medicine, implants and bone and soft tissue grafting to enhance functional, aesthetic and longevity outcomes. Alex has joined Perio Centre as a centre of excellence in periodontal and surgical care for patients to continue providing the highest quality of care. Alex consults and treats in Malvern, Blackrock and regionally in Wodonga, including treatment under IV and GA.
Dr. Alex Khominsky, a Melbourne native, graduated DUX from the University of Adelaide with multiple awards, including the Pierre Fauchard Academy Award. He earned a BScDent (Hons) in Craniofacial Biology, publishing research. Alex worked at The Alfred Hospital, treating medically complex patients and publishing on Osteonecrosis of the Jaw. After private practice and teaching, he completed a DCD in Periodontics. He now practices at the Perio Centre (Blackrock, Malvern, Wodonga) focusing on periodontal medicine, regeneration, implants, and grafting. He also leads General Dental Residency, aiming to improve the successful careers of all dental professionals through education.
Dr Lucy Yu
Dr Yu completed a Bachelor of Dental Science at the University of Queensland., and then went on to complete her Doctor of Clinical Dentistry in Paediatric Dentistry at the University of Sydney in 2021. After spending some time working interstate and overseas, Lucy moved back to Melbourne and currently works at Paediatric Dental Home and the Royal Dental Hospital Melbourne. Her area of interest is dental traumatology, and she is currently on the research committee for the International Association of Dental Traumatology.
Dr Carolyn Ng
Dr Ng completed her Bachelor of Dental Science from the University of Melbourne and Doctorate of Clinical Dentistry from the University of Sydney. She has served Melbourne and regional Victoria through the provision of general dental and specialist orthodontic services, supervision of dental students, mentoring, lecturing and tutoring of dentists, and executive roles on the ADAVB and ASOVB. She is the current Chair of the Australasian Orthodontic Board and works in private practice in Hawthorn.
