Contemporary temporomandibular dysfunction

This course brings together specialists from the disciplines of Prosthodontics, Oral Medicine, Oral Maxillofacial Surgery and Physiotherapy, to dispel many of the myths surrounding TMD and present current thinking about its aetiology and effective treatment.

In the hands-on session, clinical assessment of TMD, occlusal splint designs and conservative, non-surgical techniques, appropriate for use in general practice, will be demonstrated.

•    Understand the current, evidence-based concepts of TMD
•    Follow the key steps in diagnosing different types of TMD
•    Know the current physical, pharmacological and surgical techniques available for treatment of TMD
•    Understand the importance of patient acceptance and compliance and when to refer patients

Associate Professor Michael Stubbs 
Associate Professor is the academic lead at Latrobe University Dental School in oral pathology/oral medicine and runs the Melbourne Oral Medicine Centre in Southbank. He has presented at numerous national and international meetings on all areas of oral medicine including orofacial pain/TMD/dental sleep medicine and oral mucosal disease.

Dr Jayce Gilbert 
Jayce is a Specialist Musculoskeletal Physiotherapist (conferred by fellowship of the Australian College of Physiotherapists in 2010). He has extensive expertise in the management of Temporomandibular Disorders (TMD) and orofacial musculoskeletal pain. He consults at the Melbourne Oral Medicine Centre in Southbank and his own clinic in Cheltenham. He teaches physiotherapists and regularly contributes as a guest lecturer on TMD and related conditions in interdisciplinary healthcare education.

Dr Graham Woolley 

Graham Woolley completed his specialist prosthodontic qualifications in Melbourne, in 2002.
He has worked in many different environments: private practice, government clinics, dental hospitals, universities and for the Australian and New Zealand Defence Forces.
His time is currently divided between specialist private practice, undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, in Victoria, Australia.
