Endodontic refresher intensive workshop
Build on your existing skills to create a solid foundation for contemporary endodontic treatment.
Contemporary endodontics has seen unprecedented advances in diagnostic imaging, intracanal disinfection techniques, and materials. These advancements have led to evidence-validated improvements in endodontic treatment outcomes.
This course will show participants how to effectively integrate important technologic advancements into daily practice. Advances in endodontic imaging, instrumentation, root canal disinfection, root filling, and materials will be discussed. Clinical techniques will be demonstrated via microscope assisted clinical video. This course includes an extensive hands-on component.
At the conclusion of this session, participants will be able to:
- Apply CBCT imaging to enhance endodontic diagnosis, treatment planning, and workflow.
- Implement principles of dentine conservation in modern endodontics to enhance long-term tooth survival.
- Understand the principles and practical aspects of heat-treated NiTi file systems and contemporary techniques to enhance endodontic irrigation and obturation
- Incorporate calcium silicate-based materials (MTA and bioceramics) into practice, including obturation, perforation repair, and vital pulp therapy.
CPD hours: 6.5 clinical hours

Associate Professor Geoffrey Young
Associate Professor Geoffrey Young obtained his BDS degree (University Medal) from the University of Sydney, his specialist degree from the University of Melbourne, and was the first endodontist in NSW awarded Fellowship of the RACDS in the Special Field of Endodontics. He subsequently established Sydney Endodontic Centre – the largest specialist endodontic group practice in the Inner West of Sydney. A/Prof Young is Head of Endodontics at the Department of Dentistry, Latrobe University. He holds a concurrent Honorary Associate Professor appointment at the University of Sydney, and an Adjunct Associate Professor appointment at Charles Sturt University. A/Prof Young is committed to the development and provision of continuing education through the RACDS and the Australian Dental Association at a state and federal level.
Associate Professor Mark Evans
A/Prof Mark Evans graduated from the University of Melbourne in 1990. He then served as a Dental Officer with the RAAF before entering private general practice. He completed his specialist training in 2001 and has been in full-time private specialist practice ever since. Mark has served on ADA(VB) Council, and on numerous committees and he has also been awarded Fellowships with the Pierre Fauchard Academy and the Academy of Dentistry International for his work in the dental profession. Mark is also involved in teaching postgraduate students at The Melbourne Dental School and he was appointed as an examiner for the Australian Dental Council in 2001. He has lectured nationally and internationally and has published several articles in local and international medical and dental journals. Mark is in specialist Endodontic practice in Melbourne’s CBD.
Dr Mark Johnstone
Mark graduated with a Bachelor of Dental Science with Honours from the University of Melbourne in 2008. He was on the Deans Honours List and winner of the Ernest Joske Prize in final year dentistry. He worked in private practice for three years before beginning specialist training, graduating with the Doctor of Clinical Dentistry in 2014 from the University of Melbourne and being awarded the Ephraim Ehrmann Memorial Prize. He completed a Masters of Health and Medical Law from the University of Melbourne in 2019 from the University of Melbourne. Mark practices in private practice in Maribyrnong, Victoria.
