Adjunct Clinical Associate Professor Mathew Lim

Clinical Associate Professor Mathew Lim is a young clinical leader and clinician-scientist. He is one of only 30 registered specialists in special needs dentistry, specialising in the management of patients with complex health needs and disabilities. He currently practices in Melbourne in the private and hospital sectors with appointments at Royal Melbourne Hospital, and St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne, and The Alfred, where he is also the Director of Dental Services.
Mathew also has academic appointments at the Central Clinical School, Faculty of Medicine, Nursing, and Health Sciences at Monash University and at the Melbourne Dental School. These roles include Senior Lecturer in Special Needs Dentistry, Clinical Lead of the final year of the Doctor of Dental Surgery program, and Convenor of the Doctor of Clinical Dentistry (Special Needs Dentistry) degree. He had a diverse research background that ranges from clinical research into the evidence-based management of patients with bleeding conditions, to public health research focussed on understanding the challenges experienced by people with disability in relation to their oral health and improving oral health workforce capability to address the growing population of patients with complex medical needs and disabilities.
Mathew is Past-President of the Australian and New Zealand Academy of Special Needs Dentistry and contributes regularly to local and international advisory committees and working parties, including the National Disability Roadmap Implementation Governance Group
