New COVID restrictions announced

The Victorian Government has announced new restrictions as a result of an emerging COVID-19 outbreak in Melbourne.

The main change impacting dental practices is the requirement to wear a face mask indoors (unless an exemption applies) from 6pm tonight (25 May) in all areas of Greater Melbourne. This means all staff must wear a face mask in all areas of the dental practice (not just when treating patients) and patients must wear a face mask in the reception area. The face mask requirement applies to everyone aged 12 years and older.

It is important to check the list of potential exposure sites and get tested and isolate as required. Information on exposure sites can be found here coronavirus.vic.gov.au/exposure-sites

Practices should continue to screen patients for symptoms and if they have been at any of the potential exposure sites. Practices near Tier 1 and Tier 2 exposure sites need to be on alert for staff and patients who may have inadvertently crossed paths with potential carriers. You should defer treatment for anyone reporting symptoms or anyone who has been at one of the exposure sites.

We will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates.
