Some regional LGAs to enter lockdown
The Victorian Government has announced that the City of Greater Geelong, the Surf Coast and Mitchell Shire will enter a seven-day lockdown from 11.59pm tonight, 19 September 2021, with restrictions the same as for the City of Ballarat and metropolitan Melbourne.
This means that there will be only five reasons to leave your home:
- To get the food and the supplies you need
- To exercise for up to four hours no more than 10km from your home
- For care or caregiving
- For authorised work or education if you can’t do it from home
- To get vaccinated at the nearest possible location.
Dental practitioners will only be permitted to provide dental services in management of patients with urgent needs or care where failure to do so in a clinically appropriate timeframe will lead to adverse outcomes. These restrictions are part of the Restricted Activity Directions issued by the Victorian Government under the authority of the Public Health and Wellbeing Act 2008 (Vic). These restrictions apply to all dental practitioners in the City of Greater Geelong, the Surf Coast and Mitchell Shire. We have provided guidance on how to interpret these restrictions.
Roadmap to reopening
The Victorian Government has released the roadmap for reopening, which has been developed based on expert modelling from the Burnet Institute taking into account COVID-19 thresholds for hospitalisation rates and the vaccination targets set out in the National Plan.
The Victorian Government also made an announcement that all healthcare workers would be required to have had at least their first vaccination dose by 15 October. There are no further details at this stage, and we have been in discussions with the Department of Health about this requirement. We will provide members with more information in due course when the public health orders become available. In the meantime we would strongly encourage all members and their staff to get vaccinated in anticipation of this requirement.
