Track your waste
Waste management is governed by the state of Victoria and amendments to the Environmental Protection Act 2017 came into effect on 1 July 2021.
New laws and regulations give the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) increased powers to prevent harm from pollution and waste.
Dentists generate (or produce) two types of reportable priority waste (which are subject to the highest levels of standards and controls). They are:
- Amalgam (waste code D120)
- Non-amalgam containing clinical waste (waste code R100).
The EPA now requires submission of an electronic record (using their online Waste Tracker system) every time reportable priority waste changes hands. The system has been designed to support duty holders to comply with their new duties.
For more information about your waste duties, review the presentation provided by the EPA here.
