Notice to Members: Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS)
Federal Budget Measures Focus on Fraud Prevention
As part of the Australian Government’s 2026–27 Federal Budget, the Treasurer has announced a strong commitment to strengthening Medicare. A key element of this commitment is enhancing the prevention and detection of fraud within Commonwealth-funded health programs, including the Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS).
In this context, members are reminded of the importance of ensuring full compliance with CDBS claiming requirements. Failure to do so may result in reprimand, financial penalties, or exclusion from participation in the scheme.
Members can protect themselves by reviewing the Guide to the Child Dental Benefits Schedule (Version 14, January 2026). While the document may appear extensive, particular attention is recommended for the first 17 pages, which provide:
- Practical examples of appropriate patient–staff conversations demonstrating valid financial consent
- Clear guidance on permissible and non-permissible billing and claiming practices
Ensuring familiarity with this guidance will assist members in maintaining compliance and mitigating risk in an environment of increased scrutiny.
